Q: How long has The Blindman been in business?
A: The Blindman was established in 1990 and has grown to be the Mountain West’s largest shutter and blind manufacturer. Q: Does The Blindman have product showrooms? A: We have local showrooms and representatives throughout the Mountain West to serve you: Lindon Factory/ShowroomQ: How do I order from The Blindman? A: We have experienced sales representatives that will come to your home and provide you with a professional bid. They will measure your windows, show you samples and answer any questions that you may have. Just call any of our showrooms and we’ll gladly set it up for you. You can also order directly from any of our showrooms by providing your own measurements. Click here to view our window measuring instructions.
Q: Do I need to pay for a consultation?
A: No! Our in-home consultations are always free with no obligations. Q: Do you repair blinds? A:We can service and repair any blind or shutter purchased from The Blindman. We are not able to service blinds and shutters that were purchased elsewhere. Because we have designed and engineered our products and components to meet our high standards, our product components aren’t compatible with other companies products. Window coverings purchased from The Blindman come with a one-year in-home warranty. After the one year period, the window covering needs to be brought to a showroom or the factory for service. We do offer additional in-home service for a nominal trip charge. Q: Do you clean blinds? A: We do not offer product cleaning. There are usually local blind cleaning companies in most cities that offer this service. Please call one of our showrooms and we will gladly refer you to a local service provider. Please see our Product Maintenance information for instructions on care for your window coverings. Q: Should I measure my own windows for blinds? A: You can, however letting us do the measuring will yield the best results, and the responsibility will be on our shoulders and the service is free! Q: Can I save money by installing my own window coverings? A: You can, but most likely you’ll end up with disappointing results. Having the right tools, hardware and the know-how makes the difference. Also, if we do the installation we don’t charge sales tax. This usually offsets most of the cost of the installation.
Q: Does The Blindman warranty its products?
A: The Blindman offers a limited lifetime warranty. Please click here for the warranty details. Q: What is a “custom” window treatment? A: A custom window treatment is designed, fabricated and installed specific to a particular window, allowing for the proper projection, proportion, operation not to mention beauty. Q: What is the difference between a blind and a shade? A: A blind generally refers to a slatted treatment that offers light control; a shade is typically a style that operates up and down, either exposing or covering, but not offering as much light control as a blind. Q: What is the difference between ready-made, made-to-order and custom? A: Ready-made treatments are select sizes a manufacturer offers the retailer. You just purchase “off the rack”. With made-to-order, you are limited to select styles, fabrics and options, but this offers something better than the in stock program. You might consider that “semi-custom.” The Blindman specializes in custom window treatments. Our products are made specifically for YOUR window, taking into consideration proportion, projection, material selections and the overall design intent. Q: What is a pleated shade? A: The best way to tell if you’re looking at a pleated shade is by looking at it from the side. The fold of the material is very similar to that of an accordion. When the cord that runs through the shades vertically is pulled, the zigzags fold up compactly to the desired height. Pleated shades work best in rooms where a good amount of privacy is desired but the total loss of natural light is not. Most pleated shades are comprised of a light filtering fabric that helps create an environment of soft diffuse light. This keeps the room from feeling too dark or ‘shut off from the world’. Q: I live in an area where the temperature vaaries from really hot to really cold. Can window treatments help? A: Window treatments can offer excellent insulation properties. Please ask your sales representative about the specific insulation properties of the product you’re interested in. Q: What products are the least expensive, and which are most expensive? A: When talking about hard treatments, your least expensive products will be aluminum blinds, although there are varying degrees of quality, even within that product. On the higher end, you’ll find custom shutters. Wood blinds offer a more modest price point. Faux wood blinds are available if wood is not practical. Q: Which type of wood blinds are the best, premium wood or faux wood? A: Premium woods blinds can be one of the higher priced window treatments, but the cost will be well worth the return that will come with years of long-lasting durability and aesthetic value. A majority of realtors agree that real wood blinds can increase the resell value of a home. For those who find real wood blinds a bit above their budget, faux wood blinds are a perfect alternative and a clever way to get the elegant style of wood blinds while staying economical. Q: How long will it take to make my blinds or shutters? A: Under normal circumstances blinds take approximately 7 to 10 business days. Shutters take 4 to 6 weeks. It is possible to have a job “rushed”. Please ask your sales representative for details. Q: Can we motorize our window treatments? A: Certain treatments lend themselves to motorization. Roller shades are commonly motorized. There are motorization options for many other treatments as well. Ask you sales representative for more information about the specific treatment you’d like to motorize. Some treatments require hardwiring, so if you can plan in advance when building or remodeling, this is the time to check with your professional so you can plan accordingly.

Q: Do you match other companies’ prices?
A: We will beat any competitor’s price on a comparable product, guaranteed! Q: How much should I budget? A: This varies widely and with so many options, you can spend from just under a hundred to cover a basic window, but you can also cover that same window and spend thousands of dollars! Being realistic though, you’ll fall somewhere between. So many variables play into covering your windows depending on how many layers you have, the products you choose, and whether you do it yourself or hire someone to help. This even varies from region to region, so it’s really not easy to say! The best way to determine your comfort level is to do your homework and investigate your options. Q: I can’t afford to do everything at once. Is that okay? A: Sure! Of course, you’ll want to address your privacy issues first, and then as your budget allows, continue with the next phase. Q: Why are custom window coverings more expensive? A: Custom is not an assembly line type of treatment. Attention to details must be considered whether in the design and/or fabrication. Proper proportion, projection and placement of the product components are carefully specified to achieve stunning results.
Q: Privacy is not an issue for me. Do I need window coverings?
A: You might enjoy an open view during the day, having a window treatment over the window at night can provide a more complete look to a room at night, while offering insulation from heat and cold. Q: I don’t want to block the view out of my windows. What are my options? A: If you need privacy at times, but not during the day for instance, consider a cellular shade or other shade that raises completely out of the way. Shutters are always a good option for maximum view. In certain applications the panel can open out fully. With the panel in place the larger slats allow more light through.
Q: I have children and pets – what are the safety issues I need to consider?
A: Safety is a major concern at The Blindman. Always keep cords up and out of the way from little hands and pets, and never position a crib near a window with a cord. Cordless blinds are a good option. |
